What is Agar-agar? Where it is found?
Agar-agar is mucilagenous polysaccaride deposited with cellulose in the cell wall of some red algae. Agar-agar is found in the cell wall of Gelidium, Gracillaria and Gigartina red algae.
- Used as medium for microbes and tissue culture.
- Used as emulsifier in food.
- Used in the manufacture of various medicines and consmetics.
- It is also used as laxatives.
