The algal thalli are grouped into the following, based on their organization :
(A) Unicellular algae :
(a) Motile type – (i) Rhizopodial forms – e.g. Chrysamoeba sp. ( Cgrysoplyceae ).
(ii) Flagellated type – Chlamydomonas sp. (Chloophyceac )

(b)Non- Motile type – e.g. Gloeocpsa, sp. ( Cyanophyceae ) Chlorella sp. ( Chlorophyceae )

(B) Multicellular Algae :
(a) Colonial forms : two types :
(i) Motile – e.g. Volvox sp. Pandorina sp. ( Chlorophyceae )
(ii) Non motile – e.g. – Hydrodictyon sp. ( Pandorina sp.)
(b) Aggregated form :
(i) Palamelloid – e.g. – Chamydomanas sps. ( Chlorophyceae )
Chlorosaccus sp. ( Xanthophyceae )
(ii) Dendroid (tree like) – e.g. – Chrysodendron sp. ( Chrysophyceae )
(iii) Rhizopodial – e.g. – Chysidiastrum ( Chrysophyceae )

(C) Filamentous forms :
(a) Unbaranched filament : e.g – Ulothrix sp. ( Chlorophyceae )
Oedogonium sp, ( (Chlorophyceae )
(b) Branhed filament :
(i) False branched – Scytonema sp.
(ii) Truly branched ( simple ) – Cladophora sp. ( Pheophyceae )
(iii) Truly branched ( Hetorotrichous ) – Ectocarpus sp., Coleochaete sp. ( Pheophyceae )

(D) Siphonaceous forms : e.g – Vaucheria sp. ( Xanthophyceae )

(E) Parenchymatous forms : e.g – Ullva sp.,Laminaria and Sargassum sp. of Pheophyceae.

(F) Psedudoparenchymatous habit : e.g – Polysiphonia sp. and Batracchospermum sp. of Rhodophyceae
