Cardiac output is expressed in two ways -(i) Stroke Volume and (ii) Minute Volume.
(i) Stroke Volume : The volume of blood that is ejected by each ventricle during each ventricular systole is known as stroke volume. It’s volume is 70 ml in adults and it is 47 ml per sq.m surface of the body surface area. (stroke volume index)
(ii) Stroke Volume index = Stroke volume expressed in per sqm of body surface area is called stroke volume index. Its normal amount is 47 ml/sqm of body surface area.
