1.what are the hormones secreted from posterior pituitary ? Mention their function.
Ans:(i) Oxytocin. (ii) Vasopression.
- Plays role in lactation, required for milk ejection.
- Responsible for uterine contraction in parturition.
Vasopression / Antidiuretic Hormone(ADH) : Controls water reabsorption and water metabolism in the distal tubule of nephron.
2.Write the name of one milk secreting hormone.
Ans: Prolactin helps in the process of lactation. Oxytocin is required for milk ejection. Suckling stimulates lactation and ejection of milk.
3. Mention the functions of somatostatin.
Ans: The functions of Somatostatin are as follows:
(i) It inhibits secretion of islets of Langerhans hormones i.e. insulin, glucagon and pancreatic polypeptides.
(ii) It inhibits secretion of gut peptides including gastrin, secretion, VIP, CCK, GLP-1 (Glucagon like peptide-1), GLP-(iii) It inhibits pancreatic exocrine secretion.
(iv) It acts in a paracrine manner on G-cells, enterochromaffin like cells and parietal cells to inhibit gastric acid secretion.
(v) It reduces splanchnic blood flow, intestinal motility and carbohydrate absorption. It increases water and electrolyte absorption.
